Explore-A-Tours are field trips at GCM that include additional time for educational programming. Programs compliment classroom curriculum and NC Standard Courses of Study and include playful instruction by a GCM educator.

Step by Step (Grades K-2)
Together, we will move and groove as we learn why fitness, food, and fun go hand in hand. We will have a “Showdown at the Food Pyramid”, make a human food pyramid, create our own healthy meals and shuffle and step our way to fun with fitness. Every journey begins with the first step. Together we will take that step ensuring a lifetime of healthy habits!

Step-by-Step (Grade 3)
Children this age love to solve mysteries, so we’re having them help solve the case of the missing vitamins or nutrients from the diets of some zany characters. Children will design a nutritious breakfast for each case making sure each character has all they need to start off their day off right! We’ll end the session with a high energy dance to help emphasize the importance of healthy activities along with healthy eating.

Ready, Set, Grow (K-2)
We will follow Eric Carle’s The Tiny Seed through its seasonal journey to becoming a giant sunflower. This program will take us into our Learning Garden to explore the simple life cycle of a plant. You will even take home your own tiny seed as part of this fascinating lesson in nature. This program covers the following

Build-a-Bank™ (K-4)
Your class will learn valuable money-management skills that can be used throughout life. Children will receive a lesson on earning money, spending, sharing, and saving, then they will build their banks and participate in a mock shopping spree. Each bank kit includes 3 money boxes, a passbook to record deposits and withdrawals and a family guide to take home.

Happy Birthday Greensboro! (Grade 3)
200 years of Our Town! We will offer visitors an interactive experience that brings history to life. Highlights include a trip to the garden, a stop in the Transportation Gallery to learn why Greensboro is nicknamed “The Gate City”, a visit to Nonie’s House to experience life in the 1930’s, and then end in the Theatre where we rock and roll to the sounds of the city. This program is designed specifically for 3rd graders.

Nonie’s House (K-2)
Remember the days before video games and drive-through restaurants? In this interactive Explore-a-Tour, we will visit Nonie’s House, a replica of a Historic Fisher Park home, where gracious host “Nonie” will introduce children to daily living in the 1930’s. Together we will experience the sights, sounds, and even games and toys of this era.
