Nutrition Facts for Parents

Tip #1:  Parents decide WHAT and WHEN to eat; Children decide HOW MUCH.

Tip #2:  Snacks should include a carbohydrate and protein source for sustained energy.

Tip #3:  Meals should have the following plate profile = 30% fruits and vegetables; 30% grains; 30% protein; 10% healthy oils .  A 3-section picnic plate is a good estimation for adults.  Children's portions are usually smaller but of similar composition.

Tip #4:  Children learn what they live.  Getting kids to make healthy choices comes down to the parents/caregivers modeling the behaviors.
