GCM WEEKLY PROGRAMS Busy Bees Educational Playgroup: Mondays, Tuesdays 10:00-10:45am. May 5-May 20 This educational play program offers lots of fun things for parents to do with their child like reading, singing, songs, games, dancing, yoga, and even creating fun, healthy snacks together. Program best suited for pre-school aged children and their caregivers. Cost: $2 per class (plus the cost of admission or an extra $20 added to your Membership. Call Gabrielle Howell at 574-2898 for details. Twisty Tales Story Time: Wednesdays, 11:00am Join us every Wednesday at 11:00 am as we move and groove through story time with action songs and rhymes, finger plays and stories that motivate our bodies to move! Free with admission/membership. Family Fun Friday Night: Join us on Friday nights when we have lots of fun here at the Museum. We are open until 8pm and offer reduced admission ($3) after 5pm.
GCM SPECIAL MAY PROGRAMS
Sunday May 4th, 2:30pm, 3pm 3:30 and 4:15pm Student musicians and singers from three of Greensboro’s schools will perform at GCM to help us celebrate Art Beat. The performers will include Alamance Elementary Chorus, Peeler Elementary Violin Ensemble and Jesse Wharton Recorder Ensemble. In addition, Anna & Jamie’s Musical Storybook Skit will be at 4:15pm in the Theater. Free with admission/membership. Monday, May 5th, 9am-12pm Join us for this Members Only Monday celebration of Cinco de Mayo. We will make maracas, Mexican tissue-paper flowers, and even celebrate with a parade! Free with GCM Membership. Busy Bees Bedtime Stories – Mommy & Me Tuesday, May 6th – 6-6:30pm This Busy Bees Bedtime Stories is especially for Mommies (and their little ones, of course!) We will have special stories and activities that are just perfect for celebrating our Mommies! Don’t forget to wear your jammies…you too, Mommies! Free for Busy Bee Members, $3/per child for Non-members.
Masterpieces for Mommy Workshop Wednesday, May 7th (10:00-11:00, ages 3-4 years) & (3:30-4:30, ages 5-8 years) Come and join us as we create our own Masterpieces to give to our mommies for Mother’s Day. Pre-registration is required. Call Mary Mollitt at (336) 574-2898 x307 to register. Free with admission/membership. Kids on the Ball Program: 5 Alive! (For 5 year olds) Friday, May 9th, 5:30-6:00 pm This new program gets your kids moving in a fun way using kid-sized exercise balls! Our activities and games focus on a variety of fitness disciplines including balance, coordination, strength, cardio, and flexibility. Program free with admission/membership, but pre-registration is required. Call Mary Mollitt at 510-5747 to sign up.
Saturday, May 10th, 10am The bell ringers form Johnson City TN are visiting GCM to give a special performance. This fantastic musical group consists of 5 boys in the 6-8th grade on a tour. They will play classical, patriotic, folk songs. One of the boys has already performed at Carnegie Hall on the piano! Free with admission/membership. Pottery Exhibition and Plate Making Saturday, May 10th, 10:30am-2:30pm Join us as Kim Burroughs from Greensboro Day School puts on a fantastic pottery exhibition in Creation Station and shows children how to make plates from pottery! Free with admission/membership.
Sunday, May 11th, 1-5pm Celebrate Mother’s Day at GCM! Come and decorate a rock (or 2) in honor of your mommy. One rock will stay here to go in our new Outdoor Learning Environment and one can go home to decorate your own special place. All moms in FREE today…just because we love you so much!!! Tuesday, May 13th, 6-7pm Come rock out and dance the night away to the entertaining sounds of our favorite kid’s band, Big Bang Boom! They will be putting on a special concert in our backyard garden to celebrate Spring and the launch of our Outdoor Learning Environment coming soon to GCM! On this night, kids can also make their own garden art painting actual rocks! Bring your appetite - since hot and tasty Dominoes pizza will be available for sale! Concert free with GCM admission/membership. GCM’s Spring Fundraiser: Rock The Garden! Saturday, May 17th, 7-11pm Help us kick-off plans for the Museum’s new Edible Garden and Outdoor Learning Environment (OLE) at this fun, adults-only, fiesta Spring Fundraiser. There will be retro dance music by the Party Nuts Band, a live and silent auction of hand-painted garden furniture & accessories, Mexican fare and adult beverages. The new Outdoor Learning Environment at the Greensboro Children’s Museum will be a creative play space and edible discovery garden outside the Museum where children can explore the natural world in imaginative and spontaneous ways. Proceeds will benefit educational programs and summer camps at the Greensboro Children’s Museum. Tickets are $50.00 per person and can be purchased at GCM’s admission desk or by calling Theresa Spencer at 336-574-2898 x308.
GCM’s 9th Birthday Celebration: Luau Wow!
Come celebrate our birthday with us Luau style! We will have fun party music, special craft activities for the kids, costumed characters (Little Bill and Clifford the Dog), face-painters, and a special birthday cake to celebrate the Museum’s 9th birthday. Don’t miss out on this Luau Party! It’s sure to WOW you! Come dressed in Luau attire and leis. Happy Birthday to us!!! Free with admission/membership. Thanks for the N&R for supporting this event!
