Greensboro Children’s Museum Volunteer Opportunities:

Floor Volunteer

GCM’s floor volunteers make the Museum environment an unforgettable place for our visitors by playing  in the exhibits, while also being an incredibly important resource for our staff members. Floor volunteers will have the opportunity to engage with our visitors in our exciting, interactive exhibits through hands-on, imaginative play. The Museum has a very different pace depending on the time of year, the time of day, and the temperature outside. You will also be asked to assist our Education and Operations staff with any cleaning or special program assistance that may take place during your shift both on the floor and behind the scenes. The GCM is in need of flexible floor volunteers who are open to the constantly changing pace of the Museum environment and love to play!

Front Desk Volunteer

The front desk is one of the most important aspects of the GCM. This is where our customers check in, get their questions answered, and it is the first impression visitors have of the Museum. The GCM needs a front desk volunteer who has customer service experience or interest, enjoys answering the phone, and who would feel comfortable assisting the front desk staff member with check-in procedures, helping customers, and greeting guests as they walk in the door. The GCM seeks front desk volunteers with consistent and reliable weekly schedules.

Creation Station

Creation Station is GCM’s visual arts exhibit and is the only space on the floor consistently monitored by one of our staff members. The exhibit is open 9:30 AM-1 PM on the weekdays. Volunteers will assist GCM’s arts facilitator, with current projects, preparation for future activities, and will be asked to work with children and their families in the exhibit space as they explore the magical world of visual art through creative, messy play.

Field Trip Volunteer

School field trips usually visit the Museum on weekday mornings between the hours of 9 AM and 1 PM during the school year and provide some of the best opportunities for unique educational experiences through play. Groups come from schools all over to experience the GCM through planned field trip programs and unstructured play in the Museum exhibits. Volunteers present for field trips will be expected to play with children and their chaperones in exhibits and assist the GCM staff clean up the Museum during and after field trip programs.

Weekend Volunteers

Are you too busy to come volunteer during the week? Not a problem! The GCM is open on the weekends and always welcomes volunteer help on Saturdays and Sundays. There are also special Saturday only programs that occur several times a month.
